2010 Chicago Legal Pipeline Symposium

What is the Future of Diversity in the Law?

The Need

The Chicago Committee on Minorities in Large Law Firms, and co-sponsor Northwestern University School of Law, will hold its inaugural Pipeline Symposium on Friday, March 26, 2010! The goal of the Symposium is to mobilize the collective resources of the legal community to empower a more diverse group of students to achieve undergraduate success, pursue a legal education, and become compelling candidates for legal careers.

The Chicago legal community has long been interested in increasing the diversity of its ranks. It has focused on accomplishing this goal through lateral and law student hiring. But these strategies have resulted in only minor gains in racial and ethnic diversity, leaving Chicago behind the national averages. The hope is that the Pipeline Symposium will be one step towards creating a more sustainable process of developing a diverse workforce.
